Design and Implementation Unit

The Design and Implementation Unit was first established in 1998 and is responsible for the maintenance and construction of offices and buildings which fall under the aegis of Office of the Attorney General and the Ministry of Home Affairs.

In recent times, the revised Public Service (General) Order, 2020 which was officially Gazetted on 01 September, 2020, made provisions for a number of critical actions within the Public Service of Barbados. One such action was the name change of the Project Unit to the Design and Implementation Unit. The Director is Ms. Jenifer King.

The Design and Implementation Unit (DIU) areas of major responsibilities are listed below:

Office of the Attorney General

  • Judicial Centre: Supreme Court and Registration Department
  • Magistrates Courts
  • Royal Barbados Police Force – Police Stations
  • Forensic Sciences Centre

Ministry of Home Affairs

  • Barbados Fire Department – Fire Stations
  • Barbados Postal Services - Post Offices
  • Government Industrial Schools
  • DEM: Department of Emergency Management
  • CDEMA: The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency

Mission Statement

To provide project management services for all buildings under the aegis of the Office of the Attorney General and the Ministry of Home Affairs through the maintenance of the highest standard of construction and related services.

Vision Statement

Provide efficient management of resources for the maintenance of all structures under the aegis of the Office of the Attorney General and the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Programme Area

The Design and Implementation Unit oversees routine scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and capital projects required by the various departments within the Office of the Attorney General and the Ministry of Home Affairs.

  • The Forensic Science Centre

  • District 'E' Police Station
  • Crab Hill Police Station
  • Eric Holder Municipal Centre
  • Cane Garden Complex
  • Renovation of Old Police Male Barracks
  • Refurbishment of Old Black Rock Police Station
  • Hastings/Worthing Police Station

Ministry of Home Affairs

  • Arch Hall Fire Station and its extension
  • Oistins Post Office

There are currently a number of Home Affairs projects being undertaken;

  • Mechanical Workshop for the Fire Department
  • New Fire Station and Headquarters
